Do you plan to have a conference dinner? I think we need information about that and accommodation to go up on the participant website fairly swiftly!

Hi Ellen,Thanks for starting this thread. You ask a very good question. Last year we had a conference dinner. Despite a generous contribution from MacMillan, the dinner was a huge expense. Some of us really wonder whether it's worth it. The trouble with this sort of thing is that you have to get people to commit to it. You need to make reservations, which can't be changed if people suddenly decide not to turn up. We are a new conference too, so we don't want to ask people to spend a lot of money. All these things make organising a conference dinner difficult. As for accommodation. We are a regional conference. We don't expect people from far away to attend. What do you think? Any suggestions? You've mentioned the website too. Any suggestions to improve it? Cheers! Do you find this valuable? |

Hi again Ellen,I've just been in touch with 2009 conference co-ordinating committee. They are discussing the question of a conference dinner now. Leander likes the idea. Your ideas are most welcome, and please encourage your colleagues to express their opinions too. Cheers! Do you find this valuable? |

Greetings all,I think the informal dinner is better than a planned one. I am guessing that there are some cheap places near the site that we can go to. By being informal, we are not tied to a specific number and those who find that they can go, can and the others who agreed ahead of time are not under any obligation. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. At our meeting at the venue on February 15th, I believe there was a discussion from Rick Bales that a social could be held on campus. Thanks for this thread :) Stacey

Thanx Larry and Stacy!I think larry has a good point. I also think that we need to make sure that this discussion includes people who are interested in attending the conference as well as those who are involved in the organisation. I'm really grateful to Ellen for starting this thread. Perhaps a link to this thread on the conference site and facebook would be a good idea. Seems that we need to make sure that everyone who might be interested is kept in the loop. Do you find this valuable? |

Hi everyoneSeems like there are diverse groups being brought together and it would be nice to have an opportunity to actually be together outside of the plenary. Would it be possible to find an izakaya or restaurant off campus which could be advertised as the kind of official or semi-official venue for people who wanted to schmooze? On the understanding there might be about 15 people who would definitely turn up and plus or minus 10 or so? How many attended last year? I would say off campus is less of a financial risk tho you might loose some people. Would you be going for Sunday evening or Saturday evening? One idea would be to invite Professor Yoshida have it according to his availability. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Informal dinner sounds like the best plan, though checking out a couple of local venues might be a good idea just to see what kind of capacity they can take.

"Do you plan to have a conference dinner? I think we need information about that and accommodation to go up on the participant website fairly swiftly! "I agree with Ellen, Phil, and you all about the social. Let's get the site chairs on this thread. Can somebody help with that?? Soon as programmes are set.I can help with the Social too!! As for programmes --> most organizations solid in their programs and we have a wonderful day to look forward too. Stay tuned everyone!!! In adition, two groups asked for extenstions on the programs with a date I agreed on of May 4th so our deadline is pushed a little forward. Hope that all fits you well. Nevertheless, our amazing learning paths conference should be an event to come to and be remebered. Publicity is a key, isn't it? Phil's comment on accomedations? Anybody have insights? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Koizumi sensei and I (Rick) have arranged for the catering service to put on an enkai (party) on campus after the conference. They do a really good job. The cost will be ¥1500, and an additional ¥1000 if you want alcohol. If anyone wants to come to the enkai, they must complete the on-line pre-registration form no later than June 21. The on-line pre-registration is at <http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Wqm7rz_2behwx1fQhBGcGHhA_3d_3d> 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Hi, just checking but will you be sending an invitation by mail to presenters asking them to attend the social? I will forward the link to learner development discussion list with other conference info I 'm not sure how many LD-ers are coming though.

I think this is a good idea Ellen. The liaison for each group should contact the presenters, perhaps.
