Nakasendo English Conference 2009 Poster design
Feb 9 2009, 10:46 PM EST
I really like this poster and I think Steve did a fantastic job. I especially like the 2009 logo. I also think the text is great. It really captures what the conference ideals well. If I were to suggest any change it's be to the background. If it's to be brown I wonder if a lighter tone or a deeper tone might be better. Could just be how it's showing up on my computer's monitor.

Steve, I really like the concept, except the wood panelling design. Can colours be lightened up?

Thanks Rick!Just got this input from Hugh: last line: "find us all on the same paths of learning" I find it odd to be on the same paths (plural). But plural needed because of the slogan. Can I suggest change to last line: "find us all on paths of learning" I think Hugh's suggestion is good. However, I can see why Steve included "the same". Maybe we can find a way to reword it so we take care of the problem of agreement without using the idea of convergence. Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks everyone. I'm OOC (out of commission) until Thursday finishing my dissertation. I'll get onto the changes soon. The colors are much more orange than brown both on my screen and when printed. Also, I agree about the last line, I struggled as well. I'll keep thinking. Thanks again for the feedback.

Thanks Steve! I think you found a good solution to the last sentence. I'll see what I can do to get even more feedback for you through the wiki.Don't you agree that discussion is easier, and easier to follow here than on the doc? Cheers! Do you find this valuable? |

Yes, the background shows up orange on my screen, too. I guess we could make it even more orange if that is possible, just so that it doesn't appear brown on anyone's computer.

"Thanks Steve! I think you found a good solution to the last sentence. I'll see what I can do to get even more feedback for you through the wiki.Yes, that last sentence is tricky, but I think the "similar" version is an adequate solution- could be something better out there, but for now, let's go with it. Thanks again, Steve, for your quick, yet quality work. Mike, I agree with you that discussion is easier on the wiki than on the doc. I didn't actually notice, however, that you had posted a link to this thread above the doc discussion until just a minute ago. Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you can keep doing this (directing discussions to the wiki through posting links to new threads). I have some ideas on how I can help get our community members to do most of their talking here instead of on the doc. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thanks again, Steve, for your quick, yet quality work.I thought it'd worthwhile moving the discussion that too place on the google doc to the wiki. That way we can keep it all in one place. Perhaps it's be best to delete this from the doc. That might encourage people to add their input here. Anyway, below are some of the ideas that were contributed to the google doc: (Feb. 11) Here's what one lady, Ruby Ogawa, has asked for: 1. Laminated COLOR English Version of the Poster (How many copies? 10 2. Laminated COLOR Japanese Version of the Poster (How many copies? 10 3. Regular BxW version of the poster (How many English? 25 How many Japanese? 25 I am going to the WELL Retreat at Musashi Ranzan, and I will distribute them on February 14th. Also, I am going to a church near Shibuya on the 15th, and I will distribute them there. There will be gospel concert there. On the 22nd, I will going to a luncheon party in Tokyo. So, what do you think? I had offered to print out and laminate a few for her for this weekend, but not this many. I had planned to print and laminate them at below cost (estimated ¥2000) It's time to talk PR budget, I guess. Do you find this valuable? |

There's a 2000 word limit for replies a thread post. I'm going to post the discussion on the google doc in two more sections. Here's the second part:Apparently, this lady is very well-connected. The retreat sounds good to me as I understand they are educators. The church and luncheon... no idea??? A sharp color poster at the right kind of events, with one of us there to promote it (word of mouth beats anything else), seems better than a TLT or newspaper ad to me. But with our lack of real data, advertising is all conjecture from this point on.. The poster can be used to online as well. For JALT we sent postcard size version to about 30 edublogs. We need to get someone helping to find out where Japanese educators might notice things online I'll be back in public after this Thursday, gotta go write the dissertation now. Cheers (SH) Steven, I'm sending you the translation as an attachment. As I mentioned last night, I think we should add the name of the campus after 東京家政大学. If it is Jujo, Itabashi, please add 東京家政大学(板橋キャンパス). If it is Sayama, please add 東京家政大学 (狭山キャンパス). Can someone please confirm which one is correct? (SH) (Feb. 11, 2009) The Sayama campus (狭山キャンパス) closed at the end of last month. There now is only one campus for TKU in Itabashi (板橋). (RB) ( Do you find this valuable? |

Feb 11, 2009) The English poster looks great, but it could look a little snazzier if drop shadows were used for the pictures. Also if the title looked more 3D would be good. Also I think that the term "innovative" might be a stretch - ALL of these organizations are innovative? Can we use the term "Meet the Stars"? It would be better if another term was used - we can't just "borrow" the phrase. What does the Japanese poster look like? Wouldn't it be better to have a billingual one? Cuts printing costs... (AM)(Feb. 11th)To anyone out there with a MAC. I did the poster on pages. If anyone wants to jump in and add some ideas, or work on the Japanese version, or a combined J/E version, contact me off-list. steven.herder@gmail.com I'll happily send the files to you. (AM)I like Steve's suggestion, and I admire his generosity. Anyone who has ideas about the poster should "jump in" as Steve said, and offer their own version. There is space here to post alternate versions that members of the community can discuss and we can come up with a great poster. As Steve says, "Anything I can do, we can do better!". Collaboration is what it's all about! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
